This project converted an existing garage into a high-performance accessory dwelling unit, adding a new second-floor suite with a full kitchen, living area, bedroom, and washroom. The existing garage roof was removed, and the addition was built on the existing walls, with a focus on energy efficiency and modern comfort.The building envelope was upgraded with advanced insulation, air- and vapour-control layers, and high-performance windows and doors to deliver exceptional airtightness and year-round comfort. A Mitsubishi dual-port heat pump and VanEE ERV provide efficient heating, cooling, and balanced ventilation for superior indoor-air quality. Exterior finishes include genuine wood siding in a natural board-and-batten profile, a private entry deck, and aluminum railings — blending function, durability, and contemporary design.
