This low-maintenance wrap-around porch features over 1200 square feet of outdoor living space. The original veranda on this 20-year-old red brick farmhouse was falling apart, and its wood decking, railings and pergola required exhausting annual maintenance. After extensive work to strengthen the foundation and wood framing, the porch was re-clad with PVC decking, post wraps, and railings. The deck’s perimeter was upgraded to keep critters out and finished with PVC tongue and groove skirt boards. In the dining space, a sizeable rough-sawn Douglas-fir timber pergola was erected to provide afternoon shade, and a small BBQ patio was built adjacent to the back door for quick access from the kitchen. Finally, a new barnboard-clad gas fireplace anchors the living space underneath the pine tongue and groove ceiling, which houses pot lights, speakers, a ceiling fan and space heaters.
